Facial plastic surgery has evolved since I began my practice in 1985. Non-invasive facial rejuvenation was non-existent. Collagen and Botox cosmetic use were still 5 years away. The only available treatment for facial rejuvenation was surgery or very aggressive chemical peels. Today we are fortunate to be able to offer our patients everything from the least invasive options to the most advanced, elegant surgical procedures.
The most recent addition to non-invasive facial rejuvenation is Ultherapy by Ulthera. Ultrasound energy is appliedexternally on the skin to tighten and lift the muscles of the neck and face, as well as to stimulate new collagen production of the skin. The treatment takes about 60 to 90 minutes, we use a little local anesthesia to make the session comfortable for our patients. Patients may return to all their normal activities immediately after their treatment. It takes a few weeks for effects to be noticed, some patients are returning after 1 1/2 to 2 years for repeat treatment, though they still appear improved over their original pre-Ulthera photos.
Fillers are excellent for replacing volume in the face. Our favorites are Sculptra, Juvederm, Restylane, Radiesse, and Preville Silk. They can be used in combination as needed for the individual patient’s needs.
Neuromodulators such as Botox and Dysport are used strategically to eliminate wrinkles and elevate areas of the face. Xeomin is the newest botulinium neuromodulator available in the U.S.
Fractional laser skin resurfacing has become the gold standard of improving the tone, texture, and color of skin. The Fraxel platform of lasers include the original “restore” (erbium, 1550), the “repair” (carbon dioxide), and the latest “Dual” (combines thulium, 1927 with the restore). These lasers can be used alone or in combination to achieve the best cosmetic results for patients with sun damaged skin, aging skin, brown spots, acne scarring, and melasma.
Aesthetician services and the best skin care products are essential to maximize the results of non-invasive therapy. We offer patients a variety of treatments that are customized to their individual skin needs. Intraceuticals Oxygen infusion facials, Illuminize, Vitalize, and Rejuvenize Peels, and Purigenix masks are all “Hollywood” secrets that are among our least invasive treatments. SkinMedica TNS Essential Serum withthe highest concentration of growth factors in any skin care product, as well as anti-oxidants(vitamin C and E), peptides, skin lighteners and tighteners is the one product that I feel is a “must-have” for all of our patients. Sun protection, moisturizer, and retinoid treatment round out the protocol for best skin results.
Pelleve` uses radiofrequency energy to stimulate collagen superficially. Profector uses Galanic stimulation of the muscles and skin. Locally, Kim Cole is a Profector expert (Beverly Hills and Malibu).
CoolSculpting by Zeltiq is the best non-invasive treatment for the reduction of unwanted bulges of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. Fat is selectively frozen reducing the layer of subcutaneous fat of the abdomen, love handles, “bra-back”, inner thighs, and “man boobs”.
For those patients who need more than non-invasive treatments can offer, we offer the latest techniques in natural face and neck lifting as well as endoscopic brow and mid-face lifting.
We have come a long way over the past 25 years in non-invasive facial rejuvenation, continue to improve on tried and tested surgical techniques, and look forward to the exciting advances of the future. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
Be well.
