Coolsculpting by Zeltiq is a non-invasive, non-surgical method of reducing unwanted fat bulges that are resistant to diet and exercise. It is very safe and effective. Dr. Persky is one of the few physicians in the world offering this state of the art treatment developed by physicians at Harvard Medical School (Mass General Hospital). The treatment was recently featured on the “Dr. Oz” show.
Dr. Persky has been treating patients with Coolsculpting by Zeltiq since November 2010. Thus far, the patient satisfaction rate has been very high. The treatment takes one hour in the office without any anesthesia or injections. A handpiece is applied to the targeted area, suction is applied externally to the skin and subcutaneous fat, and then the tissue within the handpiece is cooled to just above freezing, selectively freezing subcutaneous fat cells, causing them to die over a one to two month time frame. By two to four months after a single treatment, the fat layer is reduced 20 to 25%.
Patients are able to return to normal activities immediately after treatment, there is literally no downtime. Dr. Persky has found that massage of the area after treatment is helpful. Additionally, patients should maintain a healthy life style before and after the treatment. Fat cells are eliminated by the treatment permanently, but if patients do not maintain their diet and exercise, and gain weight, then the remaining fat cells can hypertrophy (get larger), thus hampering the results.
On the patient plastic surgical chat site RealSelf.com, patient satisfaction is ranked 17’th among 127 procedures listed, with 85% patients saying that their treatment “was worth it”.
