American Health and Beauty today carried an article entitled “Belly Fat Blasting Fall Recipe” which cited the Mediterranean Diet consisting of foods that are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). So carve those pumpkins and roast those seeds while keeping the “love handles” at a minimum. For those of you looking for a non-surgical, more aggressive way to blast fat away from the love handles and tummy…good news. Dr. Persky will be adding the proven clinically effective Zeltiq technology to his practice this month.

Pumpkin seeds are high in a special fatty acid that combats belly fat.
Did you know that you can help flatten your belly and get rid of tummy fat by eating fat? It sounds crazy, but according to Livestrong.com, Pennsylvania State University discovered in 1999 that a diet high in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) reduced cardiovascular risk by an average of over 20%. Editors and experts at Preventionmagazine even developed a diet they named The Flat Belly Diet that focused on eating MUFAs and said, “Research shows that MUFAs have health benefits and target belly fat. They also help control satiety, so by adding in one MUFA at meals and snacks it is easier to stick with the plan and lose belly fat.”
These fatty acids are found in the Mediterranean style of eating, which the Flat Belly Diet prescribes. The diet focuses on eating MUFAs at every meal, which includes foods such as olives, avocados, nuts, seeds, dark chocolate, soybean, flax, and olive and sunflower oils.
One great source of MUFAs, as demonstrated today on The Dr. Oz Show is pumpkin seeds, which are a wonderful Autumn treat. Iron Chef Cat Cora prepares a beautiful, hardy red snapper dish on the show that uses pumpkin seeds with capers, cherry tomatoes and basil. You can also toast pumpkin seeds for a healthy, crunchy snack or make a roasted pumpkin soup using the seeds for a garnish.
