Sculptura is different from other fillers; In that it’s not the sculptura that fills the face. What we think of sculptura is that we are planting seeds of growth in the face. In other words, sculptura comes as a powder and is dissolved in water when it is injected along with local anesthesia. The particles are placed where we want to stimulate growth.
By placing the sculptura particles where we want to stimulate growth, the body’ s immune system acts and breaks down the sculptura particles.
So like the body breaks down absorbable stitches when patients have surgery, it breaks down sculptura. What they found was that when absorbable stitches broke down, there is a great deal of collagen production in those places.
So as sculptura breaks down by the body’s immune system, it is replaced by a matrix of collagen which adds to volume. The amount of volume that we get with sculptura is directly proportional to how many injection sessions we treat the patient with. So usually we have the patients come back 6-8 weeks later, and if they need more volume, we do another injection session in the areas where we want to create that volume.
