I attended our high school reunion recently. Hamilton High School, Los Angeles, CA.
One of my female classmates (whom I had not seen or heard from in 40 years), who now “works with children” shared with my wife and I,in a degrading fashion, that in elementary school I was “such a little boy” and that I probably still was. Other than the tone and intent of her statement, I took her words as a compliment.
I believe that we are given the gift of being “little boys and girls”, and that gift should be held onto for as long as possible. One of the many joys of being a parent and grandparent is to be able to again see those things that intrigued us so much when we were young, now through the eyes of our children (trips to Disneyland, cartoons, bugs, etc).
To be able to focus all of your attention on task, as does a toddler playing at the shore with wet sand for the first time, is what it takes to be great. Yes, we do all grow up and have to “behave as adults”, but don’t let go of the child within you. It is your heart and soul.
Be well.
