Microneedling with PRP
Today, skin rejuvenation procedures are more popular than ever. Patients are eager to find outpatient cosmetic treatments with short recovery periods and long-lasting results. The microneedling with PRP is a minimally invasive treatment that utilizes platelet-rich plasma (PRP) to concentrate the number of platelets in problem areas of the skin. PRP activates several essential growth factors in the skin, including:
- Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF): Encourages cell growth and regeneration
- Transforming Growth Factor (TGF): Stimulates angiogenesis, the development of new blood vessels
- Fibroblast Growth Factor (FGF): Triggers the natural process of tissue rehabilitation after injury
- Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF): Promotes collagen production
- Keratinocyte Growth Factor (KGF): Activates healing and reconstruction of the skin
What Can Microneedling With PRP Accomplish?
This technique can:
- Smooth out fine lines and wrinkles
- Enhance skin tone and texture
- Minimize the appearance of acne scars
- Improve the appearance of stretch marks
Am I a Candidate?
If you wish to soften the appearance of unsightly acne scars, pores, or blemishes, you may be a good candidate for microneedling with PRP. This procedure can also help those with other bothersome skin imperfections, such as stretch marks and scarring. If you are prone to cold sores or hypertrophic scarring, be sure to discuss this with Dr. Persky during your consultation to see if this method is right for your skin type.
The Consultation
At your consultation, Dr. Persky will evaluate your individual goals and discuss what options are available to you. He will set up a treatment plan for you based on the intensity of the desired improvement. You may only require one session, but most patients see the best results after two or more sessions.
What Is the Procedure Process?
A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient’s arm, which is centrifuged to extract the PRP for treatment. Using a microneedling pen, Dr. Persky creates strategic, minuscule needle holes in the skin. These openings allow the PRP to penetrate the skin and stimulate rejuvenation. Upon completion of the microneedling process, PRP is spread over the open pores. Any leftover PRP can be injected into the lips, under-eye hollows, or wrinkles to stimulate collagen production.
How Long Is the Recovery?
You may experience redness for two to four days, depending on your skin and the level of treatment. Some patients report a tight, warm feeling in the affected areas, but they can resume work and most activities as usual within one or two days.
Depending on the intensity of the treatment, patients may be completely healed within 24 hours. It is important to stay out of the sun and avoid wearing makeup during the first 24 hours after treatment.
What Are the Results?
Your skin will have a noticeable radiance following your treatment, and it will continue to improve over the next few weeks. Long-term results can take six to nine months to develop.
