The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS) Fall 2010 Meeting in Boston was excellent. As always, the quality of lectures, instruction, and collection of internationally known facial plastic surgeons made the trip well worthwhile for Dr. Persky. Dr. Persky shared his 3 year experience with Fraxel repair laser facial rejuvenation as well as his technique of treating acne scars with Fraxel repair.
The paper presentations that attracted the most press were the “Comparison of Efficacy of Action of Botox Cosmetic and Dysport in the Treatment of Crow’s Feet” by Kenneth Yu, MD and “A Blinded Evaluation of the Effects of Hyaluronic Acid (Juvederm, Restylane) Filler Injections on First Impressions” by Steven Dayan, MD.
Dr. Yu reported that Dysport was reported to be more clinically effective than Botox in the treatment of crow’s feet at 30 day evaluation. Dr. Dayan reported that first impressions during the first few seconds of meeting someone are positively affected by the added facial volume that hyaluronic acid fillers achieve.
Course director Edwin Williams, MD shared his excellent results and experience using Sculptra injections for facial volume replacement. Fat transfer, rhinoplasty, fractionated CO2 skin resurfacing, non-invasive emerging trends and technologies were “hot” topics as well.
Dr. Persky enjoyed learning in Boston as well as experiencing a Red Sox game at Fenway Park, and asking the New England Patriot cheerleaders for some tips to share with his varsity high school cheerleader daughter.
