“I’ll have what she’s having!
Nora Ephron from “When Harry Met Sally“
Nora Ephron, a true philosopher, author, and screenwriter, according to The Los Angeles Times, “…wrote fiction that was distinguished by characters who seemed simultaneously normal and extraordinary.” Like many of you.
Ms. Ephram used her last published book as a primer on life, a life that she knew was ending from acute myeloid leukemia. Her last book, “I Remember Nothing: And Other Reflections”, hints at her illness and ends with two essays that list what she will miss – and the things she won’t.
What wouldn’t she miss? How great is this? For starters – ‘The former Soviet Republics, Twitter, the Kardashians, all housewives(I assume that she is referring to “The Housewives of…” since she also included “The Bachlorette” and “American Idol“), illness everywhere, every drink invented since the Cosmopolitan, especially the drink made with crushed mint leaves (you know the one) (Mojito).’
And the things she will miss: ‘My kids, Nick, spring, fall, waffles, the concept of waffles, twinkle lights, butter, Paris, and pie.’
I will be adding”I Remember Nothing: And Other Reflections” and “I Feel Bad About My Neck: And Other Thoughts on Being a Woman” to my summer reading list.
Our condolences to Ms. Ephron’s family, friends, and fans. May her soul be bound to eternal life.
