Actual RealSelf Patient Comment:

Do chin fillers dissolve bone or damage it? Also, is there fat in the chin where filler can be injected and where is that fat because Botox needles hit the muscle and those needles are very small.

Dr. Persky’s reply: Fillers do not damage or dissolve facial bone. Facial bone begins to lose volume naturally from age 25 on. Chin implants have been known to cause the bone of the chin to reabsorb, we see this occasionally when chin implants are removed. There is fat under the skin in the chin. Filler in the chin area is injected under the muscle over the bone, or in the subcutaneous tissue. Good luck and be well.
