Emsculpt: What is a good starting BMI. Is it effective for the deeper fat?
RealSelf actual patient comment:

A.Each individual should be examined by a physician prior to Emsculpt treatment to determine whether they are a candidate for the procedure. Ideal patients are those with a BMI of 30 or below, but there are exceptions depending on the individual. Most importantly a detailed past medical history must be taken insure safety and efficacy. We had a patient today who remembered that as a child she had surgery and that metal clips were used internally in her abdomen. Metal in the body close to the area treated is a contraindication to Emsculpt so she was not treated. The fat that Emsculpt reduces is peripheral fat (that fat between the skin and muscle). It does not decrease visceral fat (the fat below the muscle around the intestines, “beer belly” fat.) Interestingly, the love handle fat is often decreased when the abdomen is treated with Emsculpt because of the supra maximal contractions of the core abdominal muscles. Good luck and be well.
