Actual RealSelf Patient Comment:  Female, 32, 5’6. 10 years ago I did a facial fat transfer with the groin as the donor site. Although ten years have passed, whenever I eat anything salty my face swells up and it takes a couple of days for the swelling to go down. Is there anything i can be doing to prevent the swelling? Is this normal? Its been ten years

Dr. Persky’s Answer:  Sorry to hear that you are suffering the side effects of facial fat transfer. Not only does transferred fat sometimes swell after salty food, but should you gain excessive weight it may also swell. Other than avoiding salty and spicey foods there is not much that can be done to prevent swelling. You may benefit from procedures that decrease fat in the face such as targeted Profound RF or targeted Ultherapy. Feel free to contact me with any further questions.
