Actual RealSelf Patient Comment: I suffer from TMJ. I get headaches, tinnitus, my jaw pops every time I open my mouth etc, but is manageable. I was looking at possibly getting Botox as a last- resort option, but I am worried I might be too young to start it. One side is bigger than the other because of TMJ, and I know Botox can atrophy these muscles so my jawline can be more symmetrical, another benefit I was also looking at. Primarily though, I am looking for some relief from my TMJ. Is 19 too young to get Masseter botox?

Dr. Persky’s Reply: Botox injected into the masseter muscles for TMJ is very effective for all ages, so no, you are not too young to have Botox treatment to relieve your TMJ Syndrome problems. Make sure to choose your injecting physician most carefully as Botox injection in the TMJ is an advanced technique to get right. Good luck and be well.
