Is it important for doctors to mix Sculptra two days before treatment to prevent lumps?
Actual RealSelf Patient Comment: I’ve read that it’s important to mix sculptra at least two days before treatment to prevent lumps. I’ve also learned some ‘world renowned’ docs who don’t mix early. I’ve heard it needs to be kept warm. What’s the truth here on mixing sculptra and preventing lumps? Also, how would one mix sculptra with prp? Thanks for taking the time to review and respond.
Dr.Persky’s Response: For many years it was recommended that Sculptra be mixed a few days before use. Recent studies and research have shown that mixing Sculptra immediately before injection is also safe and in the studies did not prove to have increased complications including lumps and nodules. I personally have been using Sculptra since 2009. I prefer to mix it a few days and let it “marinate” before using. We have not have any problems with lumps, bumps, or nodules using this technique. PRP can be added to the syringe when injecting Sculptra. As with any aesthetic procedure, be sure to choose your treating physician most carefully! Good luck and be well.
