Is there any new intelligence on mitigating Sculptra disasters? (Photo)
Actual Real Self Patient Comment: 11 months ago I had one vial of Sculptra to temple jaw and cheeks. I developed malar mounds – not sure if its the collegen building in the wrong place or edema. I also have a pad on my brow bone I think the product migrated. I hate it. Is there new effort towards decreasing the build or get rid of it? There are so many people on these boards suffering from Sculptra. Really bad, like systemic. Have any of you successfully treated and solved a bad sculptra outcome?
Dr. Persky’s Reply: Sorry that are suffering from this adverse event after Sculptra injections. I have injected hundreds of Sculptra patients since 2009 without adverse events. I have treated complications from other clinics. Unfortunately malar edema is caused by blockage of lymphatics. When injected just over bone and below muscle (not through muscle) this should not occur. Treating malar edema is difficult. The best treatment that I have found is a combination of micro-needle radiofrequency (either Profound RF or Morpheus8) with fractionated CO2 laser (like Fraxel repair.) Ultherapy can also be used in combination with laser. It may take multiple treatment sessions but I have seen very nice improvement. Good luck and be well.
