Profound treatment with broken needle
RealSelf actual patient comment:
One of the needles broke or bent during the treatment and they switched out the head. It happened again with the second head and they would just shut off the alarm and keep going. My question is if I received less treatment because of one or more less working needles?
A.Great question. The Profound RF “heads” or tips that contain the paired micro-needles are complex state of the art technology. There are 5 pairs of very delicatemicro-needles in each tip. They have intricate micro-chip technology that precisely controls the temperature and time of exposure. If a micro-needle is damaged (usually by the needle striking bone), the needle withdraws back into the tip and no longer deploys. If this should happen, then only 4 of the original 5 pairs of needles are working, giving only80% of treatment per insertion into the skin. The feedback of the broken needlesounds an alarm after 5 insertions with a compromised tip. If the tip is detached from the handpiece and re-attached, 5 more insertions are allowed before the alarm sounds again. By continuing with a damaged tip, you may still receive a full treatment as long as you receive 20% more insertions to make up for the broken needle pair. The tips cost hundreds of dollars. If a needle breaks near the end of a treatment session,a physician may choose to continue with the damaged tip, but should begiving more insertions to cover the same surface area, though it may take longer, patients should receive a full treatment. Good luck and be well.
