Dr. Persky is proud to offer a revolutionary skin quality treatment from JUVÉDERM®: SkinVive™ injections. This blog discusses the benefits of a HA, the difference between SkinVive™ and dermal filler injections, and how SkinVive™ can transform your skin.

Harness the Power of HA with SkinVive™ by JUVÉDERM®

So many of us long for our faces to have a radiant glow of perfect hydration. By now, JUVÉDERM® is a household name for those familiar with aesthetics; the brand offers a staggering amount of dermal filler products for all skin types, concerns, and treatment areas, providing patients and medical practitioners an arsenal of products to customize facial volumization to the letter.

Now, we have a new type of injectable from JUVÉDERM®: SkinVive™ is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable capable of hydrating the skin by absorbing 1000 times its weight in water. But how does this compare to the HA fillers in the JUVÉDERM® family? We’ll break it down below.

What Is SkinVive™?

Although most JUVÉDERM® products contain HA in their formulas, SkinVive™ is very different from the rest of their products–because SkinVive™ is not a filler. This product is a skin quality treatment, also called a skin hydration booster. It works to improve skin quality by increasing hydration directly below the surface rather than increasing volume like a filler.

The active ingredient in SkinVive™ is hyaluronic acid, which is a naturally occurring substance found in the body. HA keeps your joints supple, your skin flexible, and everything hydrated. You’ve probably seen HA advertised as the active ingredient in many topical skin creams, lotions, and serums because of its powerful ability to absorb and retain moisture. That’s because hydrated skin is healthy, beautiful skin.

SkinVive™ harnesses the power of HA in microdroplets that are injected within the most superficial layer of the skin, treating dryness, roughness, uneven texture, fine lines, and wrinkles. So, how does this differ from other dermal injections that also contain HA?

What’s the Difference Between Dermal Fillers and SkinVive™?

Both products contain HA, but they act very differently due to the lower concentration of HA in SkinVive™.

SkinVive™ is not used to increase volume at all. This modified low HA formula is used specifically for skin quality rejuvenation: by increasing the skin’s ability to absorb and retain moisture, hydrating the skin as if it were perpetually bathed in a lake of HA. Skin appears smoother and healthier with reduced appearance of fine lines. Patients who want their skin to have a long-lasting, radiant glow can benefit from SkinVive™ injections. Patients state that they look like they have foundation on their skin 24 hours a day without applying any make-up.

On the other hand, dermal fillers, while they can contain HA for hydration, are primarily used to increase the volume of the body area where they are injected. Patients may have dermal fillers injected in their cheeks to create a more sculpted look or their lips for a plump pout. Fillers are also used to correct deep static wrinkles or creases around the face as they quite literally “fill in” depressions, including acne scarring. They are also injected deeper into the tissues, as they provide a structure to sculpt or augment the treatment area.

What Results Can I Expect from SkinVive™ Injections?

With SkinVive™, you concentrate on hydrating the skin for a more radiant, glowing surface. Hydrated skin results in better healing abilities after injury (including the occasional pimple), a more even complexion, and reduced fine lines and wrinkles while pores appear smaller. Most patients can enjoy these results for about six months.

You can combine SkinVive™ with other non-surgical treatments, such as dermal fillers, laser resurfacing, or neuromodulator wrinkle relaxers. If you have already had some anti-aging facial rejuvenation procedures, such as a facelift, SkinVive™ can help extend the results by boosting skin hydration and health. After all, what’s the point of a good structure without healthy skin on top?
