Ultherapy is one of the most incredible innovations in non-invasive facial plastic surgery that has come along during my career.
Ultherapy uses micro-focused ultrasound energy to target the fiber muscular level of the face as well as the under surface of the skin. We are able to target at three specific levels. During the treatment, we are able to look at the actual patient’s; skin, muscle, fat anatomy on an ultrasound screen. So that is one phase of the ultrasound technology.
The second phase of the ultrasound technology in the head of the transducer that we actually use on a face, emits a multiple ultrasound beams. And these ultrasound beams, until they collide, they really don’t do much; but when they collide, they create heat at about 70 degree Celsius and that’s enough to create a burn at a specific level that we want to have that burn occur. The burn does two things; one there is immediate contraction of the fiber muscular layer in the skin which creates lifting and tightening; and secondly, over about a six month period, those burns form new collagen and during that time, there is lifting and tightening of the face and the neck. Ultherapy is the only technology that has been FDA approved to lift the brows, the face and the neck.
