00.01. – What is Otoplasty?
00.24- Age for Otoplasty in grown-ups
00.46 – Age for Otoplasty in children
Otoplasty means changing the shape of the ear externally. Oto is Latin for ear plasty is changing the shape. In facial plastic surgery, one of the more common procedures that we perform is Otoplasty.
It’s a procedure that is growing in popularity. There is two sets of patient demographics that present for Otoplasty. There is older people that have kind of not liked their ears the whole life by order late teens, early twenties, thirties.
And then there are children that are three four years old where parents want to have the large lop ears fixed prior to the child going to school where they may be teased and suffer psychological problems because of their ears. So as facial plastic surgeons, we usually recommend if a child has very large ears and is starting to be teased about those, the parents should arrange to have the child have their ears fixed prior to beginning formal schooling.
